Airtight plastic containers are pretty handy items around the kitchen. You get almost unlimited use out of them and they can keep leftover foods fresh in your refrigerator. But if you keep something in the container that smells -- such as fish -- or goes rotten, you could end up with a nasty lingering odor. But with just a couple of common household items, you can get them smelling neutral once again.
.Wash the plastic containers and lids with unscented dish soap so that you don't have the dish soap taste in your dishes.
.Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1/4 cup of water. Make it into a paste and rub your plastic containers with this like you are using a scrub. Let this sit in your plasticware for 10 minutes.
.Rinse and dry.
.Place a box of baking soda in the cabinet that you have your plastic containers in just like you would in your refrigerator.
